  • ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY

    By Gilles Denizot

    http://www.change.org/ideas/view/abolish_the_death_penalty

The death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights. It is the premeditated and cold-blooded killing of a human being by the state. This cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment is done in the name of justice.

It violates the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In 2008, at least 2,390 people were executed in 25 countries around the world and 8,864 people were sentenced to death in 52 countries. Amnesty International reports that executions almost doubled in number from 1,252 in 2007. 95% of all known executions were carried out in only six countries: China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Pakistan and Iraq.

In December 2007 and 2008 the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolutions 62/149 and 63/168, calling for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty. The United States of America voted against.

The United States of America is slowly turning against capital punishment. Yet, 52 human beings have been executed in 2009. It needs to stop, on a federal level, and in all states where capital punishment is still in practice.

    The death penalty:

    - denies the possibility of rehabilitation and reconciliation.

    - promotes simplistic responses to complex human problems, rather than pursuing explanations that could inform positive strategies.

    - prolongs the suffering of the murder victim’s family, and extends that suffering to the loved ones of the condemned prisoner.

    - diverts resources and energy that could be better used to work against violent crime and assist those affected by it.

    - is a symptom of a culture of violence, not a solution to it. It is an affront to human dignity.

    - should be abolished in the USA. Now.

    Thank you all for voting!

CFTJ IS CAMPAIGNING

Tyree Elba Bailey

We have been fighting the death penalty for years and years…. And we have loved many of the inmates and have also been used by them..

Although we would never stop fighting against the death penalty , Myriam Stubbe and I , Bonnie Caraway , have recently come to the point of giving up on knowing the men personally as the pain is great when you lose one to the gurney or begin to see how some of them use you..

But recently we have come in contact with an inmate in population that is doing 99 years for a rape he did not commit.. We believe this with all our heart and soul..

He’s never ask for help… His entire family has passed away while he’s been incarcerated and he had given up and accepted this injustice… As a young black man in the USA what else could he expect.

Tyree-Elba R. Bailey came into our life and we have come to love him like a son… We are trying to do all we can to help him.. Fight for him a lawyer to file his appeals and get his trial transcript and even try to get an investigator to help us.. All this cost money. In Texas justice comes very expensive….Therefore we are asking for donations to help us see this young man find freedom..

All you need to do is read a letter he personally wrote at our request "to whom it may concern" and you will see the injustice he’s been handed.

PLEASE GO ON "CAMPAIGNING FOR"

For a starter I’d like to say that I believe in his innocence so much that my own daughter was raped and beaten a few years ago. This man was white and he got 6 years for it and was on parole at the time.. At any rate she also writes to him and loves and believes in his innocence. To me that says a lot about this poor soul.. She truly cares about what has happened to him. Yet she and I both would have killed the man that raped her if we had the chance.. Six years for raping a minor while on parole and he gets away with that. While Tyree-Elba Bailey gets 99 years for something he did not do.

Even the girl that he was supposed to have raped retracted her statement and told the police and a doctor that she had lied about Tyree because she liked him and he wouldn’t’ have anything to do with her because he liked her older sister.. This was her way for getting even with him. Yet the police wouldn’t’ allow her statement in where she actually tells the truth about it..

Also the lawyer that represented him at the time of the trial had to send for books to help him know how to try to defend Tyree…. Incompetent all the way.. That along should be grounds for a new trial.

All we are asking is that you take a look at some of this info.. Even write to him if you feel the need.. But we need to form a group and help Tyree all we can.

for donations : please go on "support us" and "paypal"

thank you for your help and concern
